A blend of Chai spices can warm your heart and soothe your soul. At least, I think it can. (And even more, I love how that sounds.)
What is Chai?
Did you know that the word chai is the generic word for tea in Hindi, in India? Chai is derived from the Chinese word for tea, which is Cha.
Chai is typically a blend of black tea and strong spices, like cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger and black peppercorns.
Much like a curry, there are many different blends of chai with various combinations of spices.
In this recipe I use cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and ginger and together they will truly warm you up and make the oatmeal a comfort food breakfast like no other!

Pour the milk into a medium-size sauce pan, and add the sugar, syrup, vanilla, all of the spices and the salt.
Add the oats and stir until everything is blended evenly.
Turn the heat to medium, bring to a strong simmer and then turn the heat down and gently cook until the milk has been absorbed, about 10 minutes.
Serve with cream (I used half and half), fresh berries, banana and dried cranberries if desired.
