Smoky Grilled Red Onions are a super quick and easy side dish or addition to other recipes. They can be thrown on the grill next to the steaks or chicken, or whatever else you might be cooking.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups thickly sliced red onion (about ¼-inch slices)- see notes
  • olive oil
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat a stove-top grill and place the onion rounds on a large plate.
  • Drizzle both sides generously with olive oil and then season both sides with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Add the onions to the preheated grill. You should hear a sizzling sound, and if you don't, wait -- the grill isn't hot enough.
  • Grill until the onions are well marked and charred, 1 to 2 minutes per side.
  • Serve!

Notes

2 cups of the sliced onion is from approximately 1 large onion.
