Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine ¾ cup of the brown sugar, flour, baking powder, spices and salt.
Sprinkle the entire top surface with the remaining ½ cup of brown sugar.
Place the baking pan on a baking sheet (just in case it bubbles over), and bake in the preheated 350°F oven until it's golden brown, about 45 minutes.
