Two of summer's most prized fruits in one amazingly delicious salsa! This sweet and subtly spicy, fresh Strawberry Avocado Salsa is not only fantastic with the expected tortilla chips, but it's also incredible spooned over grilled chicken and fish.

Strawberries and avocados are a superb flavor and texture combination, and I love highlighting it. This duo is especially lovely in one of my fun fruity avocado toasts, and it's a huge crow pleaser in this salsa.
You can find avocados and strawberries year-round, but generally they'll never be as perfect as they are in the summer, when strawberries are at their sweetest and the avocados are their creamiest.
With just a few fresh ingredients, plus lightly salted tortilla chips, you can be snacking on this within twenty minutes.
And I can tell you that if this recipe sounds good, I would repeat all of the above about my Avocado Mango Salsa!
The Ingredients

- strawberries - Choose strawberries that are bright red and have a natural shine, with bright green stems. (Pro Tip: During the summer, buy your strawberries at the Farmers' Market when possible. Always walk up and down the market having a sample at each strawberry booth before deciding where to buy. You can find a Farmers Market near you here.)
- avocado - It's important that you use a ripe BUT firm avocado. That means they should yield to gentle pressure. They will feel slightly soft but not mushy to the touch. If they're too soft, you won't be able to easily cut them into a lovely dice.Try to buy locally grown avocados! You know what a bummer it is when you cut into an avocado and it's either fibrous or has dark spots? That's often from the long travel it takes avocados to arrive at their final destination.
- red onion - I love red onions in salsas since they're sweeter than most others, but yellow or white onions will also work well. Always choose onions that are heavy for their size.
- lime juice - This adds a fabulous fresh tangy flavor.
- red wine vinegar - The acidity in the vinegar brightens and balances all of the flavors in the salsa. If you don't have it, just add a bit more of the lime juice.
- cilantro - I love cilantro, though I know many people have an aversion to it, so you can substitute with fresh mint or fresh basil, or a combination thereof. All three of these fresh herbs are delicious with the salsa.
How to Make Strawberry Avocado Salsa
Prep all of your ingredients, mix them together and then season to taste with salt and pepper. (This is how I season to taste.) Below is a good technique for cutting the strawberries.
- Slice off a tiny portion on the stem end and rest the strawberry on this base. Then make vertical slices, followed by horizontal slices. Then slice again in the other direction. (This is the same concept for chopping onions.)

Recipe Tips
- As with most salsas, it's nice to have all of the diced ingredients be approximately the same size -- except for the onion. I dice the onion a bit smaller because of its strong flavor. Having everything about the same size ensures each bite will capture each flavor.
- Don't mix the ingredients together until the last moment. Otherwise, the avocado will become too creamy.
- If you cut the avocado ahead of time, drizzle it with the lime juice to keep its pretty green color.
- When seasoning to taste, if your strawberries aren't as sweet as you'd like, add a sprinkle of sugar.
Serving Suggestions
- Quesadillas made with fruit can be amazing! Try adding this strawberry avocado salsa to a quesadilla made with a flour tortilla and Mozzarella and/or Cotijo cheese. (Not sponsored.)
- Serve it on top or alongside of grilled fish or chicken. It's always unexpected and so delicious!
- It would also be fabulous on toast with a layer of goat cheese.
Making it Ahead
You should not mix the ingredients together until as close to serving time as possible. However, you can prepare all of them a few hours ahead of time. (Just be sure to drizzle the lime juice from the recipe on the diced avocado.)

Wow. I cannot wait to make this! I have lots of avocados right now, because I always buy extra when I plan on making guacamole. I never know how they’re going to ripen! And it’s so pretty!
